College, ADD & Learning Disabilities

College is hard enough as it is, and students with ADD, ADHD or other learning disabilities have it even tougher than most college students. Managing all aspects of life at college can also be more difficult for students with disabilites.

Getting help with ADHD & college learning disabilities

Students who have or think they have problems completing their work or studying should seek help at the college immediately. It can be embarrassing to admit you have a learning disability but the earlier you seek professional help, the easier it is to learn to manage your lifestyle. Going to your university health center could be a good place to start. They can at least help point you in the right direction of a professional that can help.

ADD Medication and College

If you have already been diagnosed with ADHD or ADD, you are attending college and you take medication, you should know that there is usually a small percentage of students who are not diagnosed with ADD or ADHD that are always trying to buy, sell or acquire Ritalin or Adderall. It is important you hide or lock your medication away and try not to let anyone know what medication you take. If you live in a dorm, talk to your roommate and try to keep your door locked when you are not there. The last thing you need is your month supply of your prescription drug that helps you study and get good grades is gone.

Becoming an Adult with ADD, ADHD or a LD

For students with ADHD, ADD or a learning disability, college is going to be a time where they not only discover themselves like other students, but they learn how to manage their life better. Being an adult with ADD or a LD is still a process of managing all aspects of life and learning how to make your disadvantage an advantage and leverage things such as technology to help you be successful in the “real world”.
