Many people choose to stay home for college. Different people cite different reasons for such a decision, and in truth, there are both advantages and disadvantages to doing so.

You might be able to save a lot of money by staying home, specifically in rent and board. If you decide to stay at your parents’ house, you will not have to incur the cost of renting a dorm room or apartment, which can be quite significant. In addition, you might save money on food as well if you continue to partake in your family meals.
2. You can stay close to family and friends who are not moving
Many people do not want to move away from their parents and family. They like the support of their family and do not want to be without them. Staying home gives you this advantage. Going to college can be an exciting yet stressful experience, and many people want the people they know and love to be there with them when they are embarking on this new venture. Also, a lot of people have girlfriends and boyfriends who are staying home, and they do not want to leave them behind.
3. You may be able to remain in a job that you have
If they have a part time job already, they may be able to keep this job. Many people might like their jobs and not want to lose it while they switch colleges.
4. You can stay in the area you are accustomed to
Many people do not like change. They like knowing the best stores to get sales at and the best restaurants. They like the different events of their town. Many people like where they live – it is their home – and they do not want to leave it. If you stay close to home, you can learn and still not have to move away.

There may be numerous advantages to living at home. A lot of people have parents who might cook for them or do their laundry. They might have the comforts of the family home such as a nice television, comfortable bed, etc., which they might not have if they move away.
