There are many startup career opportunities available for young entrepreneurs after college. You may have a job offer from a startup you interned for, or maybe you will just create your own company. As a young entrepreneur, how do you build your own business? Well, one way is by utilizing Venture for America after college.
Venture for America is a new organization that allows recent college graduates to discover jobs through the world of entrepreneurship.
Created by Andrew Yang, the national initiative is reminiscent of the widely known Teach For America program. Disgruntled as a lawyer, Andrew found his career niche by entering the game of start ups. After successfully operating a number of ventures, the Founder decided to harness his experiences and offer those looking for unique job offers a similar path.
The program allows for recent college graduates to apply for a 2 year fellowship, culminating in a renewal of their services or the opportunity to receive a seed round of capital for their own idea.
The start ups that are being targeted as job placement sites are primarily located in economically distressed cities such as Detroit, Providence, and New Orleans.
The program provides the participants with a vibrant network of investors and accomplished entrepreneurs to learn from right after college. Becoming a Fellow first begins on the campus of Brown University where those accepting their job offers undergo a summer training program. Following the summer orientation, the recent college graduates will be placed at their respective start ups with the task of completing a 2 year apprenticeship.
The training session will allow Fellows to learn the fundamentals of social media, search engine optimization, search engine marketing, and project management.
At the conclusion of the program, all entrants will be open to receiving a $100,000 seed award that can be applied to their own idea or their associated venture.
Salaries for selected applicants will range from $32,000 – $38,000, with Fellows being provided with group housing and health insurance.
The mission of the program is to create more jobs in the United States, with 100,000 new employees being the target.
Venture for America benefits the start ups that they support by providing them with screened and motivated young graduates interested in embarking in a career in entrepreneurship. The new ventures that will be sourced are concentrated in high growth industries such as clean tech, biotech, and web based applications.
So if you have always dreamed of being a young entrepreneur, why not apply to Venture for America? Of all the career opportunities available, the one you have the most control over is the one you create by starting your own business. Best of luck, now go change the world!
